Financial Disclaimer

A financial disclaimer says your content is education, not personal investment advice, and that investing carries risk. Combine it with affiliate and earnings clauses if they apply.

Free template, not legal advice. Replace every [bracketed] field, make sure it matches what you actually do, and get a lawyer's review for anything high-stakes. How clauses are sourced.

Financial disclaimer

Content on [Website or app name] is for education and information only and is not financial, investment, tax or accounting advice, nor a recommendation to buy or sell any security or product. Investments can lose value, and past performance does not guarantee future results. [Business name] is not a registered investment adviser or broker-dealer [edit if you are]. Speak to a licensed professional before making financial decisions.

Affiliate disclosure

Some links on [Website or app name] are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, [Business name] may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. [If applicable: As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.] We only recommend products we believe are useful, and commissions do not affect our opinions. We also place a short disclosure next to affiliate links where they appear.

Earnings disclaimer

Any income, revenue or earnings figures mentioned on [Website or app name] are examples only. They are not a promise or guarantee that you will earn the same or any money. Results depend on your effort, skills, market conditions and many other factors outside our control, and many people who try similar strategies earn little or nothing. [If you show specific earnings, state what typical results are.]

Views expressed

Opinions on [Website or app name] are those of the individual authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of [Business name] or any organisation the authors work for. Comments are the responsibility of the people who post them.

What a disclaimer can't fix

In the US, giving personalised advice about securities for compensation can make you an investment adviser under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, and a "not financial advice" line does not change what you actually do. Publishers of general, impersonal content that is not tailored to individual readers are generally treated differently from advisers, which is why a disclaimer should match genuinely general content.

If you are paid to promote a stock, token or financial product, disclose it. The SEC has brought cases against people who promoted crypto assets without disclosing payment (Securities Act § 17(b)), and the FTC's endorsement rules also apply.

Frequently asked questions

Does "not financial advice" protect me?

It helps set expectations, but regulators look at substance. If you give personalised recommendations for pay, take money to promote investments without disclosing it, or make misleading claims, a disclaimer will not protect you.

Is it really free? Do I need an account?

Yes, and no. Every generator is free with no sign-up, watermark or paywall. Your answers stay in your browser; they are never sent to our server unless you use the optional AI clause writer or policy checker.

Is a generated policy legal advice?

No. PolicyForge produces a starting template from your answers. It cannot know every detail of your business or every law that applies to you. Read the whole document, replace every [bracketed] placeholder, make sure it describes what you actually do, and have a lawyer review it if you handle sensitive data, sell to children, or operate at scale.
